I
want to know what is wrong with San
Antonio radio stations. I love my
city all over; from the pro team on
a losing streak to the CONSTANT construction
to the not-blue River Walk water,
but if you’re new to the city,
you better have XM radio.
My daily trips around the dial most
of the time go like this: I get in
the car and change the radio back
from AM to FM, starting with 98.5
FM. They might sneak in a song in
between the 10-minute Hallmark Institute
(my bad, Bruce, Hallmark College)
commercials and the whack Carmen Calls
and if they do, it’s Duffle
Bag Boy.
So I switch to 106.7 FM and SUPRISE
it’s a song The Beat JUST played.
Remember when Power first came on?
They did this promotion where they
played like 1,000 or 2,000 straight
songs without any commercials. And
I’m not sure they promoted this,
but there weren’t too many repeats
either. But now it’s like they
have to make up for it.
So then I switch it over to 100.3
FM and THEY’RE playing commercials
talking about the OTHER station playing
too many commercials, so while they’re
too busy mudslinging I change it over
to 97.3 FM, (that other station) and
guess what THEY’RE doing?
So then I go to 90.1 FM. This station
is like the MTVU of the local radio.
They play a lot of alternative and
it’s a pretty good station,
but I’m new to it and the music
and I’m not too familiar with
the songs (but they do have Hip-Hop
Monday nights from 7 p.m.-midnight
and they’re the only station
in S.A. to play Lupe Fiasco’s
“Superstar”).
So after going all around I always
end up at the same spot, The Ticket
760 on AM. And I didn’t forget
MIX, as hard as I’m looking
for music on the radio, I’ll
never get so desparate as to go to
96.1. I REFUSE to listen to any station
that still has “Gold Digger”
in regular rotation.
