Dr.
Constantin Bratianu is on campus from
Jan. 27 to Feb. 16 promoting study
abroad opportunities in Romania and
participating in academic life here.
Dr. Bratianu is a professor of business
administration and researcher in strategic
management and education management
at the Academy of Economic Studies
in Bucharest, Romania.
He said the purpose of his visit is
“to increase relationships between
this university and universities in
Romania.”
To help improve this relationship,
Bratianu will be participating in
classes with the School of Business
and is the featured guest at three
campus events.
The first event was “My Study
Abroad Experience Could be Yours,
As Well,” which took place on
Jan. 28. The second event, “Joining
the European Union: Challenges and
Benefits for the Romanian Educational
System” took place on Jan. 30.
The third and final event, “Study
Abroad Opportunities: Romania and
Elsewhere,” will be held Feb.
13 in the Providence Hall West Social
Room from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The most beneficial factor of study
abroad programs, according to Bratianu,
is the cultural experience.
“It’s one thing to read
books and another to live there, to
meet people, and to understand better
what happens in Europe and Romania,”
Bratianu said.
The programs are being used as a way
of globalizing education.
“In this kind of globalization
process, we also need to increase
the dimensions of internationalization
and globalization in higher education,”
he said.
The programs Bratianu is promoting
are targeted primarily at students
interested in master’s and doctorate
programs in strategic management and
knowledge management.
He will also be conducting research
at Monroe May Elementary School. He
will observe teaching methods and
children in the classroom.
Dr. Glaser-Segura, associate professor
of business administration, elaborated
on Bratianu’s research.
“One of the things Dr. Bratianu
is very interested in, which he is
developing in Romania at the graduate
level, is how people acquire knowledge,
how they process this knowledge, and
generate knowledge.”
