As
part of the Lake Front’s suggestions
for what to do on Valentine’s
Day, this list is for the ladies,
more importantly the single ladies.
Instead of sitting around thinking
about how it sucks to not have a man,
watch a few of these movies that remind
us, who needs men, anyway?
Sigourney Weaver as Ellen
Ripley in “Alien” (1979),
“Aliens” (1986), “Alien
3 (1992), and “Alien Resurrection”
(1997)
She is an astronaut who in every one
of the “Alien” movies
fights off ugly bug-like aliens trying
to kill her. Plus she carries around
some really cool weapons.
Uma Thurman as Beatrix Kiddo,
aka Black Mamba, in “Kill Bill
– Vol. 1” (2003) and “Kill
Bill – Vol. 2” (2004)
Seriously, do we need a reason for
putting this one on the list?
Carrie Ann Moss as Trinity
in “The Matrix” (1999),
“The Matrix Reloaded”
(2003), and “The Matrix Revolutions”
(2003)
She deserves to be on the list just
for that freeze-time high kick she
does so well and the all-black attire
she boasts.
Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor
in “The Terminator” (1984)
& “Terminator 2: Judgment
Day” (1991)
The perfect example of what a woman
will do for the future of her child.
Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman,
aka Selina Kyle, in “Batman
Returns” (1992)
We don’t know what we can say
here. She wears tight leather and
takes on the world in stiletto heels.
Sorry, Halle Berry, you just didn’t
measure up.
Michelle Yeoh and Zhang Ziyi
as Yu Shien Li and Jen Yu in “Crouching
Tiger, Hidden Dragon” (2000)
Together these women put Jackie Chan
and Bruce Lee to shame, with of course
the help of a great special effects
team.
Want more ladies with serious
martial arts skills? Check out: “Hero”
(2002) and “House of Flying
Daggers” (2004).
Milla Jovovich and Michelle
Rodriguez as Alice and Rain Ocampo
in “Resident Evil” (2002)
As part of a special military unit
these ladies fight flesh-eating creatures
created after a laboratory accident.
Anne Parillaud as Nikita in
“La Femme Nikita” (1990)
Not only did she start off as a hardcore
drug user but she was redeemed by
the government and trained to be an
assassin.
Carrie Fisher as Princess
Leia in “Star Wars VI: Return
of the Jedi” (1983)
So Princess Leia kicks butt in all
of the “Star Wars” films
but we chose this one because not
only does she kill Jabba the Hut but
she does it while looking super hot!
Keira Knightley as Domino
in “Domino Harvey” (2005)
She plays a model that changes careers
and becomes a bounty hunter –
talk about killer looks.
Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft
in “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider”
(2001) and “Lara Croft Tomb
Raider: The Cradle of Life”
(2003)
Angelina earns her spot on the list
for being intelligent and fierce.
Plus, she makes a black tank top and
shorts look amazing.
Michelle Rodriguez as Diana
Guzman in “Girlfight”
(2000)
Diana is one tough tomboy who will
face anyone in the ring. She is one
lady whose bite is as tough as her
bark.
Hilary Swank as Maggie Fitzgerald
in “Million Dollar Baby”
(2004)
Maggie is an older waitress who under
the direction of her trainer, played
by Clint Eastwood, works to accomplish
her dreams of becoming a boxing champion.
Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz
and Luci Lui as Dylan, Natalie and
Alex in “Charlie’s Angels”
(2000) & “Charlie’s
Angels: Full Throttle” (2003)
These gals perfect looking sexy while
fighting bad guys.
Jennifer Lopez as Slim in
“Enough” (2002)
J. Lo makes the list for her portrayal
of an abused wife and mother on the
run who proves that a mother will
do anything, even murder, to protect
her child.
