New volleyball coach serves up changes

Lake Reporter

Mark Lee, currently the men’s volleyball head coach at Santa Monica College in Santa Monica, Calif., is the latest addition to the Our Lady of the Lake athletic program.

Lee has been coaching for the past 10 years.  He spent the last seven at Santa Monica College where he has been the head coach for five seasons.  He will complete his contract there and join the staff on campus beginning late this spring.

Lee’s most immediate goal since being given the position late last year is to begin making plans to start the recruiting process.

“My goal for the year is that we recruit academically sound students who will work hard in practice and do their best in matches,” Lee said.  “If every individual works hard the team will succeed and everything else will take care of itself.”

According to Lee, he is looking for a group of athletes to “form a solid core of volleyball players.”

During the off-season at his current location, Lee is also the coach of the Synergy Men’s Volleyball Club in Santa Monica.  He was the assistant coach at Pierce College, where the team won two conference championships and three state championships while he was a part of the coaching staff.

He is already looking forward to taking on his role on campus.

“The Lake looks like an amazing place to work,” Lee said.  “My future goal for the team is to each year do the best we can do.”
