Entertainment is key at Howl at the Moon

Lunar cycles make no difference when deciding what day to experience Howl at the Moon. At 111 W. Crockett St., this New Orleans-inspired hotspot in the heart of downtown offers visitors a unique blend of live entertainment, including sing-alongs with the piano players.

The establishment, on the south bank of the River Walk, lures audiences of all ages with classic rock ’n’ roll songs, ’80s pop music and even current hit songs. Here, the piano players and staff are not the only ones entertaining the guests; the guests often become part of the show.

“Downtown is already so much fun for me,” said Janet McDonald, a senior at UTSA and Dallas native. “And Howl at the Moon is always a favorite spot for my girlfriends and I to hang out, meet new people and let loose.”

She adds, “I can also forget about the stress of school for awhile.”

Chris Martin, marketing and promotion coordinator for the Moon, said, “We’re the place to be on the River Walk any day of the week.”

Customers shouldn’t be surprised to hear Alicia Keys, Bon Jovi, Blackcherry and some Johnny Cash all in one set. The talented piano players keep the audience involved by getting them to dance, encouraging them to get on stage and sing, or even starting a conga line.

“Our entertainers know most of today’s popular hit songs,” Christen Oroien, general manager, said.

Howl at the Moon is a 21- and-over establishment and has 14 locations nationwide.

The establishment is open 7 p.m.-2 a.m. Sunday-Thursday, 5 p.m.-2 a.m. Friday, and 6 p.m.-2 a.m. Saturday.
