No reason to jump up about ‘Jumper’

High school student David (Hayden Christensen) is in class one day with his crush Millie (Rachel Bilson). He tries to give a snow globe to her, but a bully grabs it and throws it onto a frozen lake. David goes to retrieve it, falls into the lake and accidentally teleports, or “jumps,” to a library.

You see, he has the ability to go anywhere in the world as long as he sees it with his eyes. He leaves home like his mother did when he was 5. He survives for eight years on his own by stealing money from bank vaults until Roland (Samuel L. Jackson) finds David and tries to find out who he is and who’s protecting him.

Roland is a part of a group called “Paladins” who are sworn to get rid of “jumpers” because to them only God should be everywhere. David escapes and goes back home to Millie and his dad. He takes her to Rome where he meets another jumper, Griffin (Jamie Bell), who warns him not to be so careless with his power. Roland is now after David and Griffin. Can they both get away from Roland? And can David enjoy the rest of his life with Millie?

The special effects in this film are pretty cool, but the story isn’t very strong. It claims that there are more “jumpers,” but you only see less than 10. There are too many holes in the story. Overall, I recommend waiting for it to come out on DVD.
