The
Association of Information Technology
Professionals (AITP) is an organization
that offers an understanding on the
important business role of information
systems and computing.
Originally, this group was a Recognized
Student Organization (RSO) for about
eight years, but was brought back
to the public eye by Edward Hernandez,
now the president of AITP, who took
on the role after the former president
graduated.
On April 18 the group will host a
tournament at 6 p.m. in the UWAC,
and prizes of $400 and $200 will be
offered.
“It will be a night where everyone
will have the opportunity to meet
the CISS faculty, know what to expect
and get familiar with them,”
Hernandez said.
The group has about 25 members, 18
of which are active members. This
RSO is open to all majors, but CISS
majors are preferred.
This year the AITP is putting an emphasis
on scholarships and on trying to go
to a national competition in Tennessee
this month.
In the competition, the student chapter
has the chance to enter contests involving
network design, system analysis and
design, PC troubleshooting, and database
design.
In the future, the RSO would like
to put on workshops about software
or computer training, but as for now,
the group just wants to grow as an
organization, and retain the current
number of students.
