We
all remember back in June 2005 when
in the middle of a pep rally celebrating
the Spurs’s latest addition
to their trophy case, the entire nation
learned that Tony Parker was not only
talented on the basketball court but
possessed a small knack for rapping.
That one incident spawned a rather
large interest in Tony’s “musical
capabilities.”
During last year’s NBA All-Star
weekend, Parker not only made his
debut as an “all-star”
but also as a rap star when he performed
during a party in the wee hours of
the morning before making his “all-star”
debut. He followed that up by coming
home and making his San Antonio debut
at Club Antro at a show billed “Tony
Parker and Game Time Family featuring
Fabolous.”
At the time the talk was about his
first rap single “The Top of
the Game,” the music video featured
his teammates Robert Horry, Tim Duncan,
Brent Barry, and Nazr Mohammed, and
the release of his album.
Last week, Parker added to his French
rap career and debuted his second
music video for the track “Balance
Toi.” The video can be found
at YouTube.com if you search “Tony
Parker music video” as well
as the video to “Top of the
Game.”
After watching the video a few times
I have come to the conclusion that
it’s not so bad. The beat is
rather catchy and, well, since I don’t
understand a single word coming out
of his mouth I can’t comment
on the actual content of the song.
But I give him kudos for trying something
new and since France, along with most
of Europe, adore him I do see success
for him, at least in that market.
Here in the United States, though,
I think Tony’s rap career may
only extend to those die-hard fans
of his willing to find the album.
In that case, all you guys out there
are going to be thrilled to know that
both Eva Longoria and the Spurs Silver
Dancers appear in the video.
