“The
Bank Job” is an action/adventure
film about Terry Leather (Jason Statham).
He’s a smalltime crook who runs
into Martine Love (Saffron Burrows),
an old friend who convinces him and
his crew to rob a bank that has turned
off their alarms for replacement because
nearby subway train vibrations keep
setting them off.
The plan is to dig underneath the
bank vault from a nearby business
and steal deposit boxes which contain
money and jewelry. The crew finds
out they were set up so Martine can
get a deposit box that contains incriminating
photos of the royal princess to give
to Tim Everett (Richard Lintern),
an intelligence agent.
The crew also finds out they’ve
stolen other illegal information,
which creates a world of problems
for them. Will Terry and his crew
get to keep their riches and live
happily ever after?
This film is based on a true story
when in 1971 the Lloyds Bank in London
was robbed. The crime was never solved
and no arrests were made.
The film has a couple of slow parts,
but overall it’s a great film.
It’s hard to believe that all
these things actually happened. Hollywood
filmmakers couldn’t have thought
of a story like this.
Statham, known for his usual tough
guy looks and attitude, has gotten
the opportunity to show off his acting
chops. It’s different to see
him show emotion, be a father, and
family man. I enjoyed the style and
directing in the film, which has a
gritty 1970s feel to it.
