Legendary
horror movie director George Romero
is back with “Diary of the Dead.”
It’s a mockumentary shot in
the first-person point of view, just
like “Cloverfield.”
It’s about a group of college
students shooting a horror film out
in the woods, and they hear, over
the radio about a zombie outbreak.
Jason (Joshua Close) is the director
and decides to turn it into a documentary
for people to know what happened.
Two of the students go to a mansion,
and the rest go to save Jason’s
girlfriend, Debra (Michelle Morgan),
and her family. That’s when
the adventure begins.
This film was good, but it wasn’t
Romero’s best. The sad part
is this film was made in 2007 and
was supposed to be released before
“Cloverfield.” Since it
came out after “Cloverfield,”
the camera technique and the idea
isn’t as creative.
The writing was pretty good, but the
actors’ performances could have
been better. This film had so much
potential to be a Romero classic.
Fans of Romero will want to see this
film, and those who are not fans,
just skip it. I recommend watching
the original “Night of the Living
Dead” and “Dawn of the
Dead.”
