El
Siete Mares provides authentic Mexican
seafood cuisine in San Antonio. Regional
dishes are made from a diverse selections
of meats such as mariscos (seafood),
pollo (chicken), carne (beef) or traditional
dishes such as cabrito (goat) and
even sheep head fillets.
This is truly not the place for vegetarians.
They do offer soups and salads, but
they consist of seafood also. It gives
you a feeling of eating on the coast
(without the extra crunch) while being
here in the city. The seashell theme
inside puts the fish in the net, and
it’s beautiful and creative.
It has a family atmosphere, yet it
feels like a hangout. The main dining
room is very roomy and is welcoming
to families and large groups. There
is a jukebox for you to enjoy music
while you eat and converse. There
are also two televisions, so you can
take your family to dinner and still
keep up with the big game and news.
As you walk in you see the dining
room, and, further back, you see Spanish-inspired
arch walkways. If you go in there,
it is a bar/dinning area. This is
perfect for a first date or a quick
bite to eat after a long, hard day
at work. The bar is fully stocked
with domestic and imported beers and
wines.
This is an intimate restaurant and
a friendly place. The most expensive
dish is the steak and shrimp plate
at $14.99. The other prices range
from 99 cents to $11.99.
There is also a great kids menu, which,
honestly, is the best buy. For those
who may not like seafood, the menu
has a good-sized cheeseburger for
under $5. It comes with crispy French
fries and a big, juicy burger. On
some occasions, they have mariachis,
and, if you don’t want to sit
there, they also do orders to go.
El Siete Mares is at 3831 W. Commerce
St., and their phone number is (210)
436-6056.
