The
Political Science Student Association
at the Lake is hosting the “Rock
the Ballot” event to inform
students on the importance of voting
for the upcoming 2008 presidential
election.
It is scheduled for April 30 from
5 to 8 p.m. in the Mall Area.
For the first time, Lake students
will have the opportunity to learn
more about the election and its candidates.
There will also be campaigning opportunities
for those interested and ready for
a challenge.
The purpose is to raise political
awareness and “of course (to)
have fun, too,” said Leda Barnett,
assistant professor of political science.
The PSSA officers who planned the
event are Mark Barajas, president;
Delilah Loredo, vice president; Krystal
Tamez, secretary; Tadeo Carrillo,
treasurer; and David Argueta, SGA
representative.
“The Political Science Student
Association worked hard and has put
the whole thing together, under the
guidance of the officers,” said
Barnett.
The event will consist of guest speakers
such as the executive directors of
the Bexar County Republican and Democratic
parties. They will discuss the importance
and impact of voting.
“Representative Villarreal of
the Democratic Party will give a speech
on the importance of youth involvement,”
said Barnett.
The association has also invited student
organizations from Trinity University,
University of the Incarnate Word,
and St. Mary’s University to
join students at the Lake and participate
in the decision-making for 2008.
The event will also feature a live
band, The Politics, as well as free
snacks, drinks, a voter’s registration
table, and a free gift card giveaway.
