Jacala Mexican restaurant is a piece of S.A. history

Contributing writer

Nestled in a corner of the West Side of San Antonio, Jacala Mexican Restaurant is not only known for its authentic Mexican cuisine but also for being San Antonio’s oldest originally owned Mexican restaurant.

People may wonder what is just so special about that but a walk into the restaurant will prove how unique Jacala Mexican Restaurant is. This family-owned restaurant is very proud of its history and has photographs along the walls to prove its dedication to satisfying our cravings for good Mexican food.

The family’s love for the city is also depicted through beautiful paintings on the wall of downtown San Antonio as well as famous Fiesta posters from every year imaginable.

Whether having lunch with a friend or enjoying a family get-together, Jacala is sure to accommodate any need. The restaurant provides indoor dining, as well as a spacious outdoor area that makes a perfect space for family functions and other large gatherings.

The lunch and dinner menu has something for every appetite. The restaurant offers traditional plates but with a Jacala twist, such as their very own poblano salsa. If looking for another original, try the “Jacalito’s.” This is a delicious plate of chicken nachos smothered with sour cream and both yellow and white cheeses.

The restaurant is at 606 West Ave. They serve up these tasty specialties from Sunday-Thursday 11 a.m.-9:45 p.m. and until 10:45 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
