Just Jack leaves listeners on the fence

Online Reporter

Looking at the cover of “Overtones” by Just Jack, one might assume that the CDs quite boring simply because it doesn’t catch a viewer’s interest; a drab blue to highlight the sky, a huge white and black head in the center of a town, and dark orange to highlight buildings.

But as soon as listeners open the CD and listen to the music, they will be strangely drawn in.  Coming in as its third album, the group Just Jack, is taking on different roles. With CDs that mostly dominated the pop world, the group decided to try on rap with their new album “Overtones.”

Released in September of 2007, “Overtones” lets the band talk about everything from stardom, life, lust and even relationships.

In the first single, “Writer’s Block,” listeners are immediately captivated by the uniqueness. The singers, Aaron Dublin and Roz James, entice listeners with their smooth vocals and casual words. They bring their world of stardom and glamour to ordinary life with a sense of understanding and truth.

The music is also captivating due to its wide variations. In the song “Symphony of Sirens,” the music ranges between pop and disco. While in the song “Electrickery,” the music seems to range from electronic and possibly swing.

But no matter if it is from the song “Starz in Their Eyes,” “I Talk Too Much” featuring Kylie Minogue, or “Mourning Morning,” this CD, for some strange reason, captures listeners and is marked as a possible personal favorite.
