SGA encourages the OLLU community to come and take part in helping preserve the environment.
To inform the Lake students on how they can help, SGA held the event “OLLU Thinks Green” on Sept. 20 discussing environmental issues such as “global warming and how to conserve the energy,” said Jackie Maisenbacher, SGA upper class representative.
The purpose of the event was to help the staff, faculty and students learn about the environment through games that tested their knowledge on the topic. “Many students know about global warming, however they do not know the exact causes of the research that has been done,” said Maisenbacher.
As part of the event, recognized student organizations on campus had to come up with a creation using recyclable items. By doing this project, students learned that there are many ways that an object can be used. “After doing some research on what materials are recyclable it made me reconsider throwing things away and to utilize the matter for a better cause,” said Suzy Behne, president for Epsilon Sigma Alpha.
There are many ways to help around campus it just takes a small action to make the world a better place to live, “even if it’s just recycling or turning off their (computer) monitor screens,” said Maisenbacher.
