‘Evita’: The Story of a Passionate Woman

The musical “Evita” is the true story of Eva Duarte Peron who came from a poor childhood but rose to become a leader of Argentina in the ’50s.

The role of Evita is played by Madonna. She is joined by Antonio Banderas as Che, the narrator of the musical.

Evita’s struggle began early; she was an illegitimate child who was not allowed to grieve for her father’s death. Destined to become something more, she used her beauty and charm to push herself to the top, finally arriving in Buenos Aires.

She was popular with men and used them to become an actress and radio personality. While busy climbing the social ladder, she encountered Juan Peron, who was at that time a prominent figure in the Argentine army. They married and soon she found herself campaigning for his party. While doing this, she became the voice of the lower class in Argentina. It wasn’t long before she became loved by the country because of her advocacy for their advancement.

However, much to her dismay, she became weak and could no longer fight for the people. Evita Peron died and the country that loved her mourned her death.

Regardless of the story being clouded by the inability to hear every word sung by the cast, the film went on to win three Golden Globe Awards and Best Song at the Academy Awards in 1996.

Although this makes for a great story and is a part of history, the story is better off being read about in textbooks.
