The Saints women’s volleyball team aced the last three home games bringing their home record to 3-2.
The most recent win came against Coastal Bend College on Oct. 13. The Saints dropped the first match to the Cougars 30-22 but pulled together to take the next three, 30-25, 30-21, and 32-30. Maricela Madigral finished with 38 assists during the game, Madison Madrid gathered 25 digs and served five aces, Jessica Ramirez totaled 22 kills, and Kelsey Johnson had four blocks.
“I think the bench stepped it up, but I think a lot of the girls adjusted,” said Jessica Ramirez, defensive hitter and outside hitter. “We started rough in the first game but we definitely stepped it up. Everybody played hard and as a team, working, and communicating, and I think we did great,”
The team also pulled off a win against Houston-Tillotson University Oct. 12, winning all three matches, 30-21, 30-20, and 30-17. In the game Madrid had 20 digs, Madigral finished with 18 assists and served four aces, and Ramirez hit seven kills.
“I feel like we have played a lot better than we have in the past,” said Jennifer Martinez, who plays left strong side. “We’re playing a lot closer and like more of a team,”
The Saints came up with their first home victory of the season against Schreiner University on Oct. 2, winning in straight sets, 30-25, 30-23, and 32-30. Leading the Saints to this victory were: Madigral with 32 assists, Ashley McCormick with 10 digs, and Alexandria Mendoza with seven kills and three blocks.
“The win definitely felt great,” player Jovana Nadiski said. “We had a lot of improvement with in our team. Our communication has definitely improved. This is something we lacked three weeks ago. But, now that’s gone and we are moving up. Were ready to take the next team on,” |
