CDs in time for the holidays

Reporter

The rest of 2007 looks like it’s going to be a great couple of months for music. Trey Songz and Mr. “I-hope-this-will-make-girls-like-me” J. Holiday both dropped their CDs “Trey Day” and “Back of My Lac”on Oct. 2 alongside The “Candyman” David Banner with “The Greatest Story Ever Told.” Then on Oct. 16, Lil Mama pops “The Voice of the Young People.” I may not respect her as a hip-hop artist yet, but there’s a remix of Avril Lavigne’s “Girlfriend” that Lil Mama is on and it made me respect her as an artist; it’s a well put together song.

  • Chris Brown’s MUCH anticipated album “Exclusive” comes out Nov. 6. If you saw his performance at the VMAs, you’re waiting on this CD as much as I am; this boy is the truth.
  • Alicia Keys comes back Nov. 13 with her third record, “As I Am.”If it’s anything like the others, you know she’s going to run the Grammy’s again this year.
  • Usher is supposed to drop his CD on Nov. 20. But he got married in August and they’re expecting, so $10 says it gets pushed back until 2008. Which is going to get here first? Usher No. 6 or Usher Jr.?
  • Then comes December. You know since it’s Jesus’ birthday, the best music all year comes out this month. On Dec. 12, the Academy-Award winning group Three 6 Mafia drops what is supposed to be one of their best albums yet, “Last 2 Walk.” I’m guessing that the “2” in the title is a shot at Crunchy Black, who’s not in the group anymore, leaving only DJ Paul and Juicy J the only “2” left to walk. (Glad he’s gone. Did you miss him on “Dope Boy Fresh” at all?)
  • On that same day, as if Triple Six wasn’t enough, Bow Wow and Omarion come together for “Face Off.”I have said this ever since “Let’s Get Down,” and I still think it today: BOW WOW IS THE FUTURE OF RAP MUSIC. I’m not saying right now he’s the man, I’m saying he’s GOING to be the man. Listen to “Outta My System” or “Fresh Azimiz,” and tell me he doesn’t kill those songs. And Omarion had me remixing it myself and telling everyone their body was saying “T!” and you don’t have people doing that unless it’s a hot song. This CD should do big things in ’08.
  • Then on Dec. 18 the sitcom star E-V-E releases “Here I Am.” “Tambourine” even had dudes trying to hide the little dance they do in the video; Swizz Beatz killed that beat. That’s going to be a great CD.
  • On the same day, the “Kobe Bryant of Hip-Hop” drops the LONG overdue “Tha Carter Vol. 3.” If you can’t wait until December and you need your Weezy fix now, go pick up one of his 50 mix tapes, or go get “Tha Carter 2,” that CD is impossible to top and Lil Wayne’s going to do it on Dec. 18. Reading back over this list, looks like Christmas ‘bout to be beautiful.
