Comments: Golden Wok is by far one of the best if not THE BEST Chinese restaurant in San Antonio. They are a family-owned business that has two locations plus one in Austin. At some Chinese restaurants, the chicken can look gray and the beef seems to be covered by a mysterious sauce. Not at Golden Wok – here, the chicken is white meat and all the sauces are made from scratch. They only use fresh vegetables and the rice is prepared several times throughout the day.
At Golden Wok, or G-Wok as I like to call it, each dish is prepared especially for the individual in a wok. They specialize in lettuce wraps and fresh deep-fried calamari, with a hot oil to start off with. For your entrée I would suggest my favorite dish, the sesame chicken. It’s a succulent battered peace of heaven that is marinated in sesame oils, sauces and seeds.
Another dish I would recommend would be the Cantonese Lo-Mien, a tasty noodle that is stir-fried with chicken, shrimp, beef and a mixture of vegetables. Golden Wok also specializes in a create-your-own stir-fry. They have a bar of veggies and assorted sauces you can choose from and the chef will provide you a choice of rice or noodles and your choice meat or fish.
If you have enough room for dessert you will want to get your hands on the handmade banana spring rolls that are served with vanilla ice cream. They also have a full open bar and a great wine selection.
The atmosphere is contemporary, and they are always playing hits from the ’80s and ’90s. So you can eat great food and listen to great music. This place is a guaranteed favorite and once you go, you will be hooked. Promise.
