Jesse
James Leija, two-time world boxing
champion and local sports icon, will
be on campus on Nov. 14 to give a
special presentation on “The
Spirit of Champion.”
Leija’s boxing career spanned
more than 16 years during which he
fought in nine world title fights,
two of which he won, and faced and
defeated 15 world contenders and three
Olympians. He retired with a record
of 27 wins, seven losses, and two
ties.
Locally, Leija has come to stand for
more than success in the ring. He
opened ChampionFit gym, a boxing gym
and fitness center, and is involved
with Miracle League, an organization
that reaches out to handicapped and
underprivileged children giving them
the chance to play baseball.
