During the 1990s, the Dallas Cowboys dominated American professional football. They won three Super Bowls in four years, solidifying their place among the great NFL dynasties.
The Cowboys were once called “America’s Team,” but, since winning their last Super Bowl in 1995, they have only been to the playoffs twice. During this span, many fans had jumped off the bandwagon, but, now that their record is 8-1, all the jumpers are back on.
The Cowboys’ offense is ranked second only behind New England. The Cowboys’ defense is ranked seventh, but they are not consistent.
The Cowboys have it all on offense: a gunslinger at quarterback, a bulldozer running the ball, and multiple threats in the passing game. Playing the devil’s advocate, I can say the offensive line, at times, has problems with penalties.
The defensive line has suffered since losing nose tackle Jason Ferguson in the first game of the season. This has affected their pass rush, giving opposing quarterbacks all day to find an open receiver. This puts more work on their defensive backs.
Even with a mediocre defense, the Cowboys are going to have to rely on the philosophy that the best defense is a good offense. They do have a solid fan base to fall back on no matter what. Win, loss, or draw, true Cowboys fans have been there through it all and are the ones truly relishing in this season’s success.
