After
watching the snooze fest that was
“Shooter” I felt like
I had to find a way to cancel that
out. I decided to go watch two movies
back-to-back. I chose “TMNT”
and “I Think I Love My Wife.”
I had a good time. Both were good
films. I found myself coming back
to the idea that movie theatres should
have a deal for movie nerds like me.
You pay something like 20 bucks, and
you can watch any four films that
day. I love going to the movies, and
often find myself shelling out in
excess of 20 to 30 bucks a weekend
to fund my movie-going habit. Why
not make it easier to do that?
I think it could catch on. I loved
my good time at the pictures. It would
also give a consumer an actual decent
matinee price. I always felt the matinee
and non-matinee price tags were ridiculous
in terms of the difference between
movies. There’s something very
annoying about paying close to 10
bucks for a ticket to a movie that
wasn’t worth five. If there
was something like the above-mentioned
movie deal, a person would only be
spending five dollars a ticket.
Also, considering someone who takes
this pass is likely to grow hungry
during the course of the day, it almost
guarantees concession stand visits
will be made. This puts more money
in the coffers of the movie theatre.
In the cases of places such as the
Alamo Drafthouse, this could mean
serious money.
I drop close to 50 bucks on average
for a weekend. I’m sure other
people spend more. They could marathon
trilogies. They could show the first
part of a movie and the new part after.
A perfect example would be the upcoming
third installment of the “Pirates
of the Caribbean.” They could
show the first two films, leading
into a show of the new third movie.
Alamo Drafthouse does things like
that on occasion, but I’d like
to see more theatres take note.
I hope this idea does catch on. It’s
about time.
