Our plans for the winter break

As the semester comes to a close, many of the staff members here at the Lake Front will go off to engage in various activities. This blog is dedicated to sharing with the rest of the world what each of us at the Lake Front plan to do during the break. We hope you enjoy reading, and Happy Holidays from the Lake Front.

“I plan on relaxing in my hometown of El Paso. On my list includes online shopping, coffee sipping, baking and hours of television and movies. I also will have my fill of 'real' Mexican food and homecooked meals. All in all, I look forward to one month free of deadlines and projects before my final semester as an OLLU student. Maybe I will see some snow in Denver where I plan to visit in the coming weeks.”

--- Jenina Hernandez, editor-in-chief

“For the winter break I will be going to Michigan for Christmas to stay at a ski resort with my family. For New Year’s I will be in Dallas with some other family and friends.”

--- Brittney Perry, photographer

“I plan to look for a job after graduating! I also plan to hit up the movies and relax a bit before trying to join the working world.”

--- Francisco Saenz, assistant online editor

“In elementary school I always dreaded the first English assignment because it was always the same, “What did you do for summer vacation?” I always felt like a dork because I never did anything. Now this break, I actually am doing something so it won’t be so boring to write about. I am doing lots of flying. I am going to Orlando, Fla., with my sister who lives there. Then we are both flying home to El Paso for Christmas. Doing the whole family thing, and seeing old friends, whom I wish I could spend more time with but c’est la vie. Then we are going back to Orlando to spend New Year’s with Mickey Mouse in Disney World. I think that is the only day it is actually cold in Orlando, so it won’t be a complete tropical New Year’s.”

--- Priscilla Dominguez, lead designer

“I am going to England to see my dad. We also have plans to go to Paris and see the Louvre.”

--- Brandyon Brooks, reporter

“I am not going to do anything but play street football with my friends and NOT think about school.”

--- Tracy Woods, Reporter

“My plan is to work either at my uncle's store or at my aunt's restaurant as a hostess. I also plan to meet up with old friends, go shopping for Christmas gifts, and spend quality time with my family.”

--- Eliana Rodriguez, editor

“For the Christmas break, I am planning to go back home and spend time with my folks as well as with my friends. I'm also spending a couple of days in Mexico and staying there on Christmas Eve as well as Christmas Day.”

--- Jose Ricky Ortiz, photo editor

“Work, work, work. It never seems to end. For my December break, I plan on working at H-E-B and making some money for gifts to give to my family for Christmas. In my free time, I plan on hanging out with my friends and family, and finally get a chance to relax and take a break from school and work.”

--- Pamela Alvarado, ads manager

“I have absolutely nothing planned, and I like it that way.”

--- Tessa Benavides, sports editor

“Relax, watch TV, play video games, catch some new flicks, and listen to good music. That’s what I plan to do. I’ll also take care of some stuff I need to do before I graduate. I’m just glad to get away from assignments and deadlines for a while. Of course, that means assignments and deadlines dealing with classes, not the Lake Front.”

--- Jeremy Levine, online editor

“I plan on spending the winter break lounging poolside (or beach-side) with a frosty beverage in one hand, being waited on hand and foot by either Johnny Depp, Benecio del Toro…. WAIT! … sorry, that’s my Spring Break plans! All kidding aside, I will divide my time between working on my dissertation and hanging out with my 2½-year-old son, Max (oh, yeah, and repainting the kitchen, re-grouting the bathroom tile, etc.). And though I’m looking forward to the break, I can’t wait to return to the Lake and the brand-new plush office that awaits the Lake Front!”

--- Kay O’Donnell, faculty adviser
